So to keep those neural pathways up and active, I'm making the first of every month an original poem day! Check back in tomorrow.
Happy Writing!
Every once in a while I like to emerge from my fiction concoon where the mind is full of characters, and plots, and somehow making it all make sense, every once in a while I pop up and like to dash off a few lines about the reflection of the moon and cherry blossoms in a pond. . .well not exactly, but it sounded better than wearing all black and I've yet to invest in a typewritter. . .in case you haven't guessed I'm rambling on about poetry!

![]() I was feeling antsy and was able to talk my mother into a jaunt to New Orleans. This picture is just off Jackson Square on Pirate's Alley. The gentleman pictured will write you a poem there and then on his typewritter for a pittance of 15$. Part of me thinks he's doing something right. New Orleans is the city everyone talks in a husky whiskey voice, where women pat there remember the humidity and glasses in the room start to sweat. It is the city people love to dream about, and share with everyone. It is a good city to write in, but even better to soak in and simply absorb in. My scribbles for the days are stained from powder sugar of beignets and dribbles from Pimm's cups. It is happy writing. Where are you writing from today? Well blog world, you might have noticed, it's been rather quiet on this western front. Orginially, flush with the success of actually publishing, I had envisioned cranking out a book into the wide world every six months. The excitement ended (edits, oh stupid edits) and I had to push the deadline on Catspaw back to December. A book a year, which means I'll always have four or five in the pipeline. Crazy thought that.
I knew probably in May the book wouldn't come out, but I just couldn't quite stomach actually admitting it. .. you know. . .making it real. Part of the learning process I suppose in all of this. Sometimes the time spent on these books reminds me of the training for the long runs. Consistency is all that matters, regardless of the days that don't quite work, even when it should. You take everyone's advice, encouragement, and at the end of the day, just remember you're doing it for you. Guess I'm enjoying it, so I'll just keep on trucking. |
